$100 Room Challenge | Week 1: The Hallway Pt. 2 Befores

2020 is here and we have so many new things in store for us this year. Until baby gets here in April, I have a whole list of projects to complete. One of them is our barren hallway I decided to tackle for this round of the $100 Room Challenge. This will be my 7th (!) round of this challenge and I enjoy it every single time. So far I've done the half bath, the carport, the hall closet, the full bathroom, the tool closet, and most recently the backyard shed exterior. I actually was 6 weeks pregnant and super sick while tackling the shed, but Auston helped me get all the landscaping done. I'm 24 weeks now and am feeling much better so I'm ready to make this hallway pretty and functional.

If you don't know what the $100 Room Challenge is — it's a challenge that lasts one month where we tackle one space with only $100. It was started by Erin from Lemons, Lavender, & Laundry and it continues to grow with more participants every round.

This month the hallway is getting a part two makeover. I completely re-did the closet for one of the challenges a few years ago but have never taken the time to put some love into the rest of the space. Since then even the closet has gotten messy and needs some cleaning up.

I'd like to put some kind of gallery wall on this long wall. It's kind of awkward because the thermostat and attic light switch are off set and take up a lot of the wall.

It would be nice to find an affordable runner(s) but I doubt that will fit into this $100 budget and may need to wait until another month.

I painted this cheap Home Depot light back when we moved in and really don't think I feel the need to replace it. Also, can we take a second and look at how far this hallway has come already?! It's hard to remember to appreciate how far a space has come from the beginning.

The wall between the guest bedroom and the nursery has the switches for the attic fan so there's not much I can do here.

The wall that corners the closet and tool closet has the humidifier control on and return vent on it but it does have a nice blank space in the middle that I may be able to put something on.

The closet needs a refresh, some organization and purging of coats.

I am unsure what to do on the wall at the end of the hall. It's the perfect size for a wall mirror but I don't really like the idea of looking at myself every time I walk down the hall. Does anyone have a long hall like this and have a mirror on the end?

There are a million ideas floating around in my head and over the next week I plan to solidify which direction to take it. Clear your morning and see all the other spaces being transformed over the next 5 weeks and follow on Instagram with #100RoomChallenge.

  1. This is a challenge. What about a gallery wall of the family? I love what Tasha over at https://designertrapped.com/colorful-diy-photo-gallery-wall/ did with her gallery wall. Really brightened up the space. What ever you decide to do will look amazing, I'm sure.

    1. Right?! Like the oddly spaced outlets make everything more difficult. Ooo definitely like her uniqueness, I've been considering the IKEA frames as well. Haha thanks!

  2. You have a great size closet to work with and the hallway will look great. I am with Kelli, a gallery wall would look nice. The end of the hallway along the short wall a long mirror with a little bench would look nice or a small hall tree seat. I am sure you will create a very pretty hallway and the closet will look beautiful.

    1. Thanks! Totally agree. I've thought about a bench as well but since the guest room doorway is right there I don't know if it would be in the way? Thanks!!

    1. They are! Just an odd amount of space that I want to add stuff to but not make too overwhelming or cluttered. Thanks!

  4. I'm excited to see what you do with this space - it's a big blank canvas which can be so fun! And keep an eye out at Target if they have a rug sale!!! I grabbed a great runner for my bathroom the last time for around $25 so maybe they'd have something that could work!

  5. We used to live in a rental with a mirror at the end of the hall. One night I was alone moving stuff into the house and I totally freaked myself out thinking someone was in the house with me at 1:00 in the morning... nope, just my reflection. I'm super excited to see what you do with this hallway because we also have a big blank hall and I need a little inspiration. I know whatever you do will be amazing... as always!
