One Room Challenge | Week 6: Modern Guest Room Reveal

And as quickly as it came, it's ended! Week 6 of the One Room Challenge has come and gone and now it's time for the reveal! I know you're here for the photos so I'll keep it short and sweet, but just know that I was booking it Monday and Tuesday evenings to get this room finished and ready for the shoot. I cut it close (it's 10:43pm) but it's here!

Week 1 | Home Office Befores & Plans
Week 2 | Prep & Mood Board
Week 3 | Final Paint Color
Week 4 | Installed Closet
Week 5 | Fan & Finished Closet

As a refresh, here's what the space looked like 6 weeks ago.

And here is what 42 days and a lot of sweat (and brain) equity gets you.

It really came together at the last second, but now I want to spend all my time in here.

If you've been following me for any amount of time you've probably noticed I love round mirrors, especially black ones. I have two of my favorites from Target and decided to give one of them an DIY upgrade for this space. Amber Interiors and Studio McGee gave me a bunch of inspiration with their leather and hinged mirrors, so I grabbed some small rectangular wooden dowels and a piece of leather and faked it.

My second DIY for this challenge was an art piece which was also inspired by Studio McGee that I included in the moodboard.

Next project was to cut my own custom size mats for the IKEA frames that have been laying around the house for a while. I'm really into extremely large mats because it really draws you eye to the photo when you walk in.

I also DIYed the curtains. I wanted a roman shade but wasn't feeling the blandness, so I found a great inspo photo on Pinterest where the shade was rolled up and pinned. I tied it in to the rest of the room by using leather pieces to hold the roll up. Each end has an eyelet in it and hooks onto a circle hook on the window frame.

The clothes rack was a huge last minute decision, but I'm so glad I ditched a double rod closet and put my dresses out here.

Last week I showed you guys the closet and it had the traditional two rods. I started putting my clothes in and realized I really didn't need two short spaces, I just needed one and a space for dresses. So I opted to build shelves for my denim, sweaters, and shoes, and put my dresses/the rest of my shoes on a rack.

This was my first hat wall and it won't be my last.

Every year I feel the crunch during this last week but as I sit in this space and write this post I'm so glad that I push myself through and actually accomplish a big project. Thanks for stopping by to check out how my hard work turned out, I hope you love it just as much as I do! Pop over to the rest of the ORC participants and show them some love!

  4. I love the look of the art you put up, and the roll-up shades. I am wondering if you have further considered painting the windows (but not the frames) a dark color to match the rug. I think the room needs a bit of contrast somewhere, not necessarily a pop of a bright color. I have seen black or dark near black painted windows and woodwork in a white room and its stunning. It reminds me of "European" although not sure why, LOL. The finished room gives off a serene Scandinavian vibe, so dark windows might be just the thing. Try one and see how you like it. Great job!
