One Room Challenge: Week 2 | Home Office Mood Board

The second week of the One Room Challenge is all the planning and idea generating hours culminated into one short post. I have been thinking all week about what this room should feel/look like - and there are still a lot of unkowns haha. I'd like to do an accent wall treatment, but none of the walls lend themselves to do one. All of my pins have dark walls,  leather chairs, and  of course wall treatments. Why can't you just do a wall treatment or paint the walls dark you ask? Among other excuses, the main one is we are most likely going to rent this house out and I would have to repaint any dark colors for renting purposes, but anything can happen in the next 4 weeks so we'll see.

Week 1: Home Office Befores

Studio McGee's photo is giving me so much inspiration in the colors, the way they mix metals, and the simpleness of the desk. We already have the swivel chair pictured in the mood board, and I was a little worried about how a chrome chair would fit into a room. But after studying photos of their offices I'm sure I can pair it with some warm brass pieces.

Right now I have two different mood boards, and I need your help in deciding which one looks the best. Option 1 is below, with a red persian rug. The red brings in warmth to an already cool room, but also looks a little feminine and doesn't fit into my dark inspiration pictures.

Option 2 is the same pieces, only with the blue version of the rug. It keeps the room cool and manly, but I'm not sure if I like it better than the red! But blue is my favorite color and looks really pretty. You see my dilemma.

Let me know your thoughts on the rug option and your feelings on doing a wall treatment if you/re only going to be in the house for another year (or less). Next week I will be restoring our desk to its original wood as we take off layers of paint and reinstall the original pulls. As always, be sure to check out the featured bloggers plus the other guest participants!

  1. I think the warmth of the wood you gravitate to is enough to keep the room from being too cool/masculine even if you go for the blue rug :)

  2. I love all of this! I always lean towards blue and it plays so well of natural wood. Big fan of wall treatments here as well. I look forward to seeing the reveal.

    1. Thanks Libbie! We've decided to go with the blue so we'll see how it turns out, and I'm thinking to do a simple wainscoting and paint it the color of the walls but I haven't fully decided yet. Thanks!
